2023: Review of Irish merger control in 2022
Mergers, acquisitions and certain joint ventures are notified to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) which determines whether the proposed transaction would “substantially lessen competition" in Ireland. The report highlights key time periods and trends in Irish merger control in 2022 and also looks ahead to anticipated developments in 2023.
2022 was a busy year in Irish merger control, with a total of 68 notifications being made to the CCPC. There was also one prohibition – which is unusual – and four determinations with remedies.
