Brexit: Irish legislation enacted
Somewhat ironically, on St Patrick's Day 2019, the office of the Irish President announced that President Michael D Higgins had signed the "Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (Consequential Provisions) Bill 2019" into law. The Irish parliamentary process was both swift – from initiation on 20 February 2019 to the final stage on 13 March 2019 – and smooth – with relatively few amendments to the legislation. Whether and when it will be triggered depends on events elsewhere but Ireland now has its legislation in place.
