Irish merger control. 2023 review and 2024 preview
Mergers, acquisitions and certain joint ventures are notified to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) which determines whether the proposed transaction would “substantially lessen competition" in Ireland. This report highlights key time periods and trends in Irish merger control in 2023 and also looks ahead to anticipated developments in 2024.
2023 was a busy year in Irish merger control, with a total of 68 notifications being made to the CCPC. Unlike in 2022 there were no prohibitions, four determinations were the subject of remedies.
