The Minister for Children, Disability and Equality has announced that the long-awaited gender pay gap reporting portal will be launched in autumn 2025.
Reports from all in-scope employers will be made available on the online portal, which will be fully searchable by the public. Currently, in-scope employers are only required to publish their gender pay gap report on their website.
The Department estimates that approximately 6,000 organisations will be required to report their gender pay gap data to the new portal.
Minister Foley said -
“The gender pay gap in Ireland in 2022 was 9.6%, meaning that the average man earned 9.6% more than the average woman. The new gender pay gap portal will help to raise awareness of the gender pay gap among employers and the public.”
Amending regulations will need to be introduced, requiring organisations to report their gender pay gap data via the new portal. Employers can also upload their gender pay gap reports with further detail on their own websites if they wish.
The Minister also confirmed that this year (2025), the obligation to report on the gender pay gap will extend to employers with 50 or more employees.
The announcement also indicates that this year the reporting deadline will be brought forward from December 2025 to November 2025, which had been previously indicated in the government’s FAQs. Amending regulations will also be required to bring this shorter timeframe into force.
Key takeaways for employers
The gender pay gap reporting portal will be launched sometime in autumn 2025. All in scope employers must use the portal for reporting their gender pay gap.
Starting from 1 June 2025, the threshold for gender pay gap reporting will drop, so that employers with 50 or more employees are required to publish a gender pay gap report.
This year, the reporting deadline moves to November, whereas this was previously December. This means organisations will have five months from their snapshot date to report on their gender pay gap. Employers must choose any date in June 2025 as their “snapshot date” for collecting the relevant data and report by the corresponding date in November 2025. For example, if an employer selects 15 June as their snapshot date, their report will be due on 15 November 2025.
All employers who will have 50 or more employees in June 2025 now need to prepare for the publication of details of the gender pay gap in their organisation by November. For those employers due to be in scope for the first time this year, we would recommend early preparation to ensure sufficient time to compile the data, run the calculations and prepare your narrative.
