ALG extends commitments under BITC’s Low Carbon Pledge
A&L Goodbody has extended our commitments to reduce carbon emissions under the Business in the Community's Low Carbon Pledge.
When ALG signed the Low Carbon Pledge in 2018, we committed to reduce our scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions by 50% by 2030 – this principally includes reductions in fossil fuel energy use. Under new elements of the Pledge introduced this year, we have now extended our commitments to reduce scope 3 emissions, which include waste and business travel. While carbon emissions, waste and business travel are greatly reduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Pledge sets long-term objectives and goals.
Another new element of the Pledge this year is for us to set science-based carbon emission reduction targets that are in line with the Paris Agreement on climate change. This includes reducing our entire carbon footprint (scope 1, 2 & 3) by 2024. The Pledge also requires us to publicly report our progress against these science-based targets.
Sinead Smith, Head of Corporate Responsibility at ALG, said: "Reducing our impact on the environment is one of the core pillars of our responsible business strategy – it's something that we are incredibly passionate about. Signing up to the BITC's Low Carbon Pledge not only commits us to actively reducing emissions and waste, but also holds us accountable to our progress."
