ALG tops Irish M&A transaction ranking by number of deals in 2024
A&L Goodbody LLP (ALG) advised on significantly more Irish M&A transactions than any other law firm in 2024, according to international M&A intelligence publication Mergermarket.
ALG acted on 61 reportable Irish M&A transactions in 2024. Not only was this the highest number of Irish deals in 2024, but it also means that ALG has advised on more deals in the last five years [292] than any other law firm.
The 2024 Mergermarket report highlights the strength and resilience of the Irish M&A market in 2024, but also demonstrates ALG’s position as Ireland’s leading M&A law firm.
Notable and some industry first deals that the ALG M&A team advised on in 2024 include:
- K1 Investment Management LLC on its P2P acquisition of MariaDB plc by way of tender offer
- Exponent Private Equity on the acquisition of Chanelle Pharma
- Grant Thornton Ireland (Advisory and Tax) on its merger with Grant Thornton Advisors US
- Blacksheep Fund Management on its acquisition of Distilled Limited, the owner of Daft.ie, DoneDeal and Adverts.ie
- Çimsa on its €330m acquisition of building materials and packaging group Mannok Holdings
Commenting on the Mergermarket rankings, Richard Grey, Head of M&A at ALG, said: “The Irish and worldwide M&A market remained surprisingly resilient and buoyant in 2024 in the shadow of much political and economic uncertainty, as well as increasing levels of conflict and geo-political tensions worldwide. While many of these factors persist into 2025, we anticipate that falling interest rates, increased political stability in Ireland and continued private capital interest in the Irish market will drive even higher levels of M&A activity in Ireland into 2025. 2024 was another excellent year for ALG. Our number one ranking in 2024 reinforces our position as the go to law firm, for both international and domestic clients, on material M&A transactions in the Irish market.”
