ALG named Ireland’s M&A Legal Adviser of the Year 2020
A&L Goodbody has been named M&A Legal Adviser of the Year for Ireland, at Mergermarket’s European M&A Awards 2020. The awards recognise excellence in corporate, private equity, banking and legal M&A expertise across a number of European jurisdictions. John West, EMEA Managing Editor for Mergermarket noted "This year's M&A award winners have demonstrated their ability to adapt to the headwinds and deliver value for clients - in the face of unprecedented complexity and volatility."
The award follows on the success of ALG's Corporate M&A team being shortlisted as 'European Corporate Team of the Year' at The Lawyer European Awards 2020 which took place earlier this month. ALG won the overall 'Irish Law Firm of the Year' at The Lawyer awards, as well as recently winning Who's Who Legal 'Irish Law Firm of the year 2020'.
Mark Ward, Head of Corporate M&A said: "This award highlights the quality advice and depth of experience that our lawyers consistently provide to our clients. In 2020 we supported our clients on strategically important Irish and international deals despite a rapidly changing and uncertain market. We are positioned at the very top of the M&A market because of how our people adapt and deliver for our clients every day".
Prominent deals led by ALG's M&A team during 2020 included advising domestic and international clients such as: eir on the spin-off and sale of its masts business to Phoenix Tower International; The Stars Group on its high profile merger with Flutter Entertainment Plc (Paddy Power Betfair); Comcast on its acquisition of Irish cloud based telco Blueface; Morgan Stanley, AbbVie's lead financial advisers, in connection with AbbVie's $63bn acquisition of Allergan; Oak Hill Capital Partners on its investment into Ireland's National Broadband Plan project and Livingbridge in connection with its acquisition of Chill Insurance.
