ALG wins two awards at the Chambers Ireland Sustainable Business Impact Awards 2020
A&L Goodbody (ALG) is the proud winner of two awards at the Chambers Ireland Sustainable Business Impact Awards 2020, announced yesterday afternoon.
The awards, which are open to any large indigenous or multinational company, are Ireland's most prestigious sustainable business awards.
The two winning awards for ALG were:
- Excellence in the Community – Partnership with a Charity for our partnership with Spirasi, the centre of care for survivors of torture. This partnership facilitates ALG lawyers undertaking legal reviews of medical legal reports helping Spirasi to increase its capacity to produce high quality independent expert reports on indications of torture.
- Excellence in the Community – Volunteering for our partnership with Mercy Law Resource Centre and Focus Ireland where our lawyers attend a weekly outreach clinic and provide end-to-end case work to support an individual or family experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless.
You can read more about our partnership with Spirasi, Mercy Law Resource Centre and Focus Ireland here.
We were also delighted to see some of our other responsible business initiatives shortlisted; our DARE (gender quality) initiative in the Diversity & Inclusion category; the ALG Summer School in the Workplace category and our overall Step Up Community programme in the Community programme category.
We were also shortlisted for the Outstanding Achievement in Sustainable Business Impact Award, alongside AIB (the winners), Diageo, Tesco Ireland and VMware.
On receiving the awards during a virtual ceremony, Sinead Smith, Head of Responsible Business at ALG, said: "It's a fantastic achievement to win these two awards. It's recognition of the long-term commitment we have to our responsible business strategy which has been at the core of our business for the last eight years. It also reflects the hard work and dedication of many of our people, particularly our lawyers who through pro bono partnerships such as those with Spirasi, Focus Ireland and Mercy Law Resource Centre have sought to address critical unmet legal need. Our community programme and pro bono practice focus on supporting those most vulnerable in our society and these two projects are a clear demonstration of this."
