Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015 Signed by the President
The long anticipated Regulation of Lobbying Act was signed into law by the President on 11 March 2015.
The Government have stated that the aim of the Act is to provide transparency around lobbying activities which are broadly defined in the legislation.
The legislation obliges those engaged in lobbying 'designated public officials', whether on their own behalf or on behalf of others, to register those activities. There are some exceptions to the requirement to register, including companies with less than ten employees and individuals lobbying in relation to matters other than planning matters.
Although the Act has been signed into law it has not yet been commenced as the necessary commencement order has not yet been signed by the Minister. We shall keep you advised on developments.
