OneALG - our LGBTQ+ employee group
ALG is committed to recruiting, retaining and developing a diverse group of employees and partners. We aim to provide a safe, inclusive and supportive work environment for all. This involves championing equality, diversity and inclusion within our policies, work practices, principles and procedures. It's our goal that our workforce will be truly representative of all sections of society and that each employee feels respected and able to give their best. This commitment is reflected in our Equality and Diversity Policy and our Gender Identity, Expression and Transitioning Policy.
OneALG is our LGBTQ+ employee group, focussing on empowering our LGBTQ+ employees. OneALG also contributes to our inclusive firm policies and procedures, supporting the LGBTQ+ community through impactful pro bono projects and effecting change through educational initiatives. The group was founded by employees in May 2016, and is open to everyone, both those who identify as LGBTQ+ and allies.
Some of OneALG’s recent highlights include:
- The launch of ALG’s Gender Identity, Expression and Transitioning in the Workplace Policy which was drafted in conjunction with BelongTo and the OUTLaw Network.
- The introduction of optional pronouns in email signatures and work profiles for all employees to provide a full framework for inclusion of gender expression and identity.
- Seanchoíche X-ALG Storytelling Night and other social events and fundraisers to celebrate Pride Month, Valentines Day, LGBTQ+ History Month, and World Aids Day.
- Continued partnerships with external community organisations such as BelongTo, HIV Ireland and the OUTLaw Network.
- To celebrate Pride ALG hosted a month-long series of events, including the Pride Run 2024, our annual fundraising ALG Pride coffee morning in and the Pride Parade. Our Dublin office proudly joined the OUTLaw Network and our Belfast office joined The Law Society of Northern Ireland in the annual Pride Parade.
Supporting the LGBTQ+ community
ALG proudly sponsors the annual Rainbow Ball, BeLonGTo Youth Services' flagship fundraising gala supporting LGBTQ+ youth in Ireland. All the proceeds raised on the night go towards providing vital services for BeLonGTo such as their largest anti-bullying project in the country 'Stand Up' which ensures young LGBT+ people feel safe and happy to be themselves at school.
Since 2013, ALG has advised and represented LGBTQ+ asylum seekers and refugees as part of our pro bono collaboration with the Irish Refugee's Independent Law Centre.
ALG also supports and provides legal advice to Outhouse LGBTQ+ Centre, one of our longstanding pro bono partners, and regularly contributes to international studies and research papers on LGBTQ+ issues.
OUTLaw Network
We are proud to be a founding firm of the OUTLaw Network, the legal network for LGBTQ+ legal professionals. OUTLaw aims to bring together LGBTQ+ people and allies in the Irish legal sector to foster an environment of inclusion.
